We are not that smart anymore on a global scale and we have a style of Government ATM which is just a laughing stock.

Living as an expat and watching things unfold in Oz from afar is embarrassing. That includes the way our share market operates and behaves.
You are right to question it and I think the word "interesting" that you used in your post is a bit soft.
