GD hi...as you know from the past not huge tweet fan myself, but hope this one you've found is the goods, as it would be a lot more like (exactly, in fact) what we need. Maybe it answers Gold50,000's question and comment that it is good to see SP moving in the right direction.
Because of HIG I've been keeping up with Anglo American plc who seem to like very long term very high spend JV's. The one with Highlands up behind Ok Tedi in the Star Mtns. approx 20 Km N/E of the Ok Tedi mine was first explored by Kennecott ( and who as you know found the Mt Fubilan gold cap and copper deposits at the same time) first explored the area in the 1970's - I thought a bit earlier actually - and concentrated on it. The first JV between Hig and Anglo quickly achieved a 25M$ spend, being the trigger allowing Anglo to take up management of the JV. The 25m only earned Anglo 15%, so Hig are smart negotiators when putting together a JV. Next Anglo can move to a final 80%, but by completing a BFS by 2030. We can see they are big , serious long term project builders.
Anglo may also have been a little attracted to HIG because of the latter's interests in both Ramu Nickel/cobalt, and the giant Frieda/Nena deposits, the first already producing, the second pretty much doing the paperwork. Hig have problems with the Chinese at Ramu which always manages to lose money so Hig gets little return so far, whilst the other Chinese (former PanAust) at Frieda have been trying to unseat the HIG board etc etc, though after arbitration things seem to be more settled. Given this, Hig may have more luck with Anglo.
It's interesting that HIG SP has hung around 6 cents and a little above/below forever, Mkt Cap about 58m., which is testament again on how -even with a smorgasbord of great prospects and a producing mine at a reasonable Mkt Cap - in PNG it can be hard to get and keep that SP moving.
Bulago not all that far from the Ok Tedi area, and the Anglo presence can only be a great positive for FNT, and presumably PM will have his negotiator's hat on, if the tweet is correct. Even without a JV it can only help FNT, but any results at all from Bulago should see Anglo reaching for the phone.
Good research GD.... Perhaps PM might draw some attention to it. I would rather be surrounded by Anglo at Bulago than Rio (given Rio's previous PNG history) at Tolukuma any day of a long week.
Regards to all.
