It doesn’t surprise me that small nations don’t want to deal with the Glencores (see DRC) or the BHP’s (see Escondida) of this world. Like so many multinationals, big mining has too much money and power and some countries may be getting sick of them calling all the shots. SL1 looks like a good owner/client match in Nigeria. Think they will grow and prosper together...
Oh, and on the subject of sovereign risk, Australian banks have been caught out money laundering up to $5 million dollars of drug money a day... How would you feel if that caused standup foreigners to stop dealing with Australia? And come to think of it, it doesn’t seem to have stopped investors from buying bank shares either...
