History is littered with the corpses of investors that chased the blue sky of the new thing. What you need to think about is that where there's a lot of excitement, there is also a queue of punters waving fists full of dollars. Combine a lot of competing capital with a future that rarely plays out the way the optimists would like, and even if it does, it usually take a lot longer, and you end up with, well... you're very unlikely to end with investor joy.
Don't get me wrong, all that excitement, and all that capital, regardless of the waste and excess, does eventually (generally after the excitement has turned to disappointment) lead to new products and services, even revolutionary ones, and perhaps even an improved society. It's just that the early "investors" tend not to benefit financially.
