I work in the industry, and I know the battle ground for the suppliers is in securing the pharmacy partnerships. Products sell, once they are in the stores, so the challenge is competing for the stores themselves. It can be a slow process to build a footprint though. Independent stores need to be won 1 at a time, and groups are generally aligned with their preferred suppliers for a period of time based on agreements, so you cant necessarily win them all at once.
When we have new products to introduce, being a familiar face with a current product range in a broad range of stores will mean rapid traction of new products compared to competitors who will either need to build presence from scratch or align with an existing pharmacy supplier who will take a slice of the pie and will be limited to supplying to their own customer base.
