IT is the ABS sensors I think that is the cause for the need for the newer SIBS brake system.
I think most of the modern steel panels in pickups have protection from rusting with galvanising, still an issue though in a phosphate or salt mine which would also affect brake lines .
The newer Rangers are suppose to have wiring that is protected for river crossings up to something like 600mm or so they advertise, I never had electirc problems crossing about 500mm in my old 89 ranger 2WD.
Strange for a need for a higher ANCAP ratings on a Cruiser as they are considered very safe in real life settings, Putting a V8 in them though probably has made them a little over powered at the top end and made some drivers over enthusiastic on the open road..
