Stoker, my opinion is tidal flows tend to be more active sub-surface, so Protean may not be able to efficiently capture that energy, however water is churned up at the surface by a number of factors including by exposure to climate/breezes and physical activity, so in tropical Aust. river environs including popular tourist locations, there may be enough movement to harness energy on a consistent basis.

Point is, every possible application should be explored because the unique features of Protean allow it to be considered in so many different wet environments, setting it apart from the highly scaled, mechanised alternatives.

And I am particularly interested in how micro-arrays could be useful (i.e. where Protean isn't just used as an alternative to grid supply), instead is deployed where a point source of energy doesn't exist and has a need, which is why I mentioned the shark deterrent program (caution: thought bubble alert) being deployed this summer against the rising incidents of shark attacks.

So, in this scenario, drones are deployed to act as an important visual defence, allowing the surf-lifesaving community to react more quickly to a possible risk. Drones need power, can be programmed to return automatically to re-charge and continue surveillance (bit like in that film Oblivion ).

Power supply in that program will only have been conceived as land-based. Protean could meet that (small) power need, and do in inside the marine environment itself, so it is potentially more responsive with the array perhaps connected to a small recharging pontoon off-shore. All possible, not science fiction, like the movie.

No other WEC can be thought of along these themes IMO, so it remains a mystery why so many seem to be looking the other way atm.

    Cheers BC
