Though it has only recently wrapped up the US$1.93 billion acquisition of Quadrant Energy, Santos is likely to remain acquisitive to support its natural-gas interests in eastern Australia, Morgans suggests. It notes the Quadrant deal strengthened Santos fundamentally through stronger earnings and a lower sensitivity to oil prices. The energy company also has potential upside as its venture partners seek to expand LNG operations in Papua New Guinea, Morgans adds. It lifts its recommendation to hold from reduce after recent selling returned shares to trading near what it sees as fair value; up 4.7% so far this week, the stock dropped 25% in the final quarter of 2018.
