James has just provided us with the answer to my earlier question regarding some of Dart's tenements being sized in Grats.
Minerals Tenements are pegged by exact MGA-94 co-ordinates, the grid is related to lines of latitude and longitude “it is the boundary defined by the graticules that represent the area of the land within the boundary of the tenement. These are called Graticular Sections“ hence GRATS. They are approximately equal to square kilometres “other states name the unit cells of the graticular sections as blocks“ eg. NSW
