Children’s Hospital at Westmead connects with outpatient app

The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in Sydney has added Irish company Oneview's Connect mobile app to its existing inpatient platform, aiming to link patients and their families to their carers at the pre-admission and post-discharge stages.
Oneview Connect displays alerts about upcoming appointments, assessments and patient-specific education content on the patient's favourite device, and allows patients and their families to respond.
The app is part of the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network's (SCHN) My Health Memory strategy, which aims to create a single shared “memory” of a patient’s care and improve transitions of care, shared care and self-management.
According to Oneview, patients and families can see all their health events in a quick list with real-time updates, communicate securely with their clinical team, and write back to the local electronic health record.
The plan for the next phase of the roll-out is to provide patients with videos about their conditions and keep track of their medications with reminders and tracking.
Clinicians and administrative staff can also use the system to keep patients supported in their treatment plan by assigning goals or education, remind patients about upcoming appointments and answer their questions through real-time messaging.
Oneview founder Mark McCloskey said the company created Oneview Connect to help prepare and educate patients and their families before they arrive and when they go home.
“With Connect, patients receive pre-admission and post-discharge education, and can continue the conversation with their care providers through messaging, proactive notifications and reminders, one-click actionable alerts and more,” he said.
The SCHN's My Health Memory platform is aimed at improving patient engagement, clinical workflows and communication. It is an integrated bedside system that provides patient infotainment with other options for parents.
It is delivered through bedside TVs and tablets along with Foxtel, web browsing, social media, Skype, games, movies on-demand and free-to-air TV.
