I had a quick test, I'm getting an IP Address based in Jersey (UK Territory) This is on the Telstra network. Pings times are consistent with yours >800, but if I ping London its a more respectable ~400. This leads me to thinking that they are wholesaling from a MVNO aggregator that has their gateway in Jersey.
Why on earth they would do this is beyond me given their geographic focus is in Asia, unless this provider is really, really cheap!! The reality is, for non time sensitive applications it doesn't matter, and it would explain why they aren't combining this with their VoIP app, because that would be really, really bad!
In the interview it was stressed that uptake would enable them to improve their buy rate, so I guess we take the positive that they are focused primarily on profit.
The above is just an educated/cynical hunch. If you (or anyone else preferably international) can confirm the IP they are receiving does not originate from the Isle of Jersey using other networks, then I'm wrong and this is just a glitch..
