Hi Dockie
Unlike heart surgery the odd minor thing going wrong in the construction and mining industries, is a sign of good management not bad. If we didn't have the odd minor rock fall it would mean that we had spent far to much capital laying back the pit walls.
I'm reminded of my lecturer in a subject called Professional Practice. He told us if we fell for the trap of trying to charge too much or playing it too safe and over designing everything the only engineers to be seen would be the stuffed ones standing beside the waterside workers in museums.
Batters and foundations are by far the trickiest things to design accurately, because of the inherent uncertainties built into the base material that is being worked with.
Given that the mining should have been finished in June and the pit floor is now so small that only one machine is capable of working and is in fact working then the affected area can't be that large.
Fingers crossed.
