Chilloutman, maybe you should take your nic seriously and chill out. This forum exists for members to discuss stocks, obtain and share information including differing views, and enjoy our time here, since most of us do this in our spare time. If 2 posts asking questions about the viability of this technology makes me a downramper, then you are displaying just about the strongest case of investor bias I have seen in 8 years on HC. How are potential investors supposed to do their due diligence on a new technology / new company / new investment if they can't ask questions? And if you turn off potential investors with your attitude, who do you expect to create buying pressure to improve the share price so you can make a positive return when you want to exit your investment?
The company is promoting the technology as "low cost" and quoting < $128/MWh which is lower cost than well established solar & wind technologies - yet they are targeting niche markets like oil rigs and tropical islands where the cost of energy is high to obtain because of geographical isolation (diesel generators, etc). If the technology was genuinely low cost then why aren't they targeting mainstream electricity markets and competing against the established RE technologies?
I think the technology probably has a legitimate and competitive application in some of the target markets they've identified, but that's a long way from the £30Bn wave energy market potential claimed in one of their presentations. Just because nature's energy is freely available doesn't mean its cheap - the real cost of that energy is in the harnessing and transmission (in terms of both capex and opex). Electricity is a commodity and so no matter what mainstream or niche market SHE will always be a price taker not price setter, the question that needs to be asked as an investor is what is the technology cost of harnessing and delivering that electricity to market, and will it make a profit (without subsidies). If you don't ask those questions, then I guess you're investing not for a ROI but because you want to save the planet.
Cheers, Sharks.
