Not trolling, I live on an island and also make all of my own power requirements. Am extremely interested in this type of thing, always like good discussion......
First up, I have observed the demo where the unit is free to receive full wave motion, I have no problem with that, however in the illustration of the banks of units, it shows them tightly together. It would be interesting to see how they are cabled together, (again no details) as somewhere in this system there needs to be flexibility in the coupling arrangement. One would assume that they are coupled electrically on the sea floor end so would need some sort of flexible coupling at each unit. eg cabling or sliding coupling of some sort etc? to allow for the unit motion at minimum.
My argument that energy will be lost between each unit stands, as each unit will take energy from the moving water. To illustrate, if you had a block of units which covered an area of say 100m x 100m then the ones near the middle wont have the same energy available as the outside ones. Obviously they probably wouldn't have banks of that many but you can see what I mean? (see efficiency below)
1. Retrieving a unit with a tinny is one thing. The weather is another. In the southern ocean which they have quoted in the presentation, it doesn't quote days not available to get to the units for maintenance. As we are talking tinnies here Im guessing 30-60 days per year?

4.-5. In my experience machinery in a marine environment require lots of maintenance. The higher the water temperature the faster the growth rate for algae, fungi, sea weed etc. Water intake systems on seagoing ships require maintenance monthly at minimum. On board, chemicals can be used to slow growth of marine life, in the open they wont have that luxury? Pulleys and cables are a headache at the best of times, I not convinced they will be low maintenance in this application? They also use a lot of energy in their operation. (frictional losses in both the bearings and cables) I guess the efficiency of the unit itself is not so important , as the "fuel" is free, however the less efficient they are, the more you need, adding the construction costs and ongoing costs.
All land based power generation systems that involve mechanical devices, ie all but solar? require maintenance more regularly than two years. Something in the salt water will certainly require more than that.
