he's actually spot on, EV doesn't solve the emission problem, until the mix of stationary generation changes substantially the EV just cause emissions elsewhere rather than at the tailpipe. The increase load on the network if petrol is essentially replaced with electricity, will increase the overall power demand so that the percentage of renewable penetration is even greater than base case
the big advantage of EV's is the eliminatio of localised particulate emissions from the tailpipe, giving clearer air (see China) which has short term health issues... this is what i think is the current major advantage of EV's
longer term (ie multiple decades into future) if we nail heaps of nuclear (fission or fusion) and have complementary Solar/Batteries, moving everything to electric driven as opposed to FF ICE will then have the secondary CO2 benefit
this doesn't lessen the business case for increased numbers of EV's on the road, so no point getting the back up about factual statements
