Of course all of that is true. Professional financial services have always had some interesting quirks, and yes, perhaps contradictions. However, there is no trade off between offering true unconflicted fee-for-service, and expecting your customers to come back.
And unconflicted advise requires independence. That's crystal clear.
Providing unconflicted advise is very different from providing an education, though there may be parallels.
I sense you are displaying a little confirmation bias, if I may say.
