Burma raided and sacked Siams ( Thailand) 2nd capital city Ayutthaya, a few hundred year ago ? this was after the 1st capital of Siam Sukhothai had been taken by Ayuthaya, which made this a very strong city. So Burma in that day must have been very strong as at the same time they fought Siam they were also at war with China. Thailand's capital was then formed on the west bank of the Chao Phrayn river , "Thonbury," but later relocated to the east side because of flooding, now Bangkok, which is also sinking at an alarming rate. !!
From my travel experiences along the Myanmar / Thai border towns , Burmese are treated very poorly by the Thais. Many cross the border illegally and are hired in the fields and paid in rice and shelter. These border areas are policed very heavily, looking for illegals, every bus and car searched for passports and ID cards etc. They must have seen more opportunity across the border that what they had at home ? I can only imagine the excitement and security companies like MYL offer these local people. I found the Burmese to be very gentle friendly people. just sayin
