    next week
CEO Richard Jagger (ex MD Monsanto Australia and Sinochem Australia) will provide an update on the developmentof theirnovel insecticide Flavocide.

    BGT Background

The destruction of crops by insects, both in production and storage, is a well-known threat globally. However, this threat is compounded by the increasing resistance of the most prevalent insects to incumbent insecticides, dramatically reducing the options available to effectively control these pests. Furthermore, resistance to insecticides is driving the rapid increase in vector borne diseases such as Malaria, Zika virus and Dengue fever.

The challenge facing the industry globally is two-fold; firstly, there is a distinct lack of new technologies (or chemistries) to combat these resistant insects and secondly there are increasing concerns surrounding the impact of incumbent insecticides on the environment.

BGT has a platform technology based on a new class of chemistry which has been proven in trials to control a wide variety of resistant pests whilst showing relatively low toxicity to bees and other beneficial insects compared to current major insecticides.

The lead molecule at the core of the technology was discovered in a rare Eucalyptus tree. BGT has two products: Qcide™which is a natural oil extracted from the leaves of the Eucalypt and Flavocide™which is a synthesized molecule (i.e. ‘nature identical’ from the same family of chemistry andwhich can be produced on a large scale.

BGT has made significant progress during the past 12 months in progressing this technology towards commercial partnerships with global Ag-chem businesses, NGO’s and Government agencies by developing a significant database of information around efficacy, safety, intellectual property and manufacturing.

    In summary

    • The global pesticide market totalled $64bn in 2015. BGT is targeting several key markets including crop protection, animal health, public health and consumer products
    • In key studies to date,Qcide™ &Flavocide™ have demonstrated effectiveness against a range of pests resistant to the major chemistry groups used today, including significant crop pests, grain storage pests and mosquitoes
    • Combining Flavocide™with incumbent insecticides has been found to improve their effectiveness as well as reducing the potential for development of resistance
    • Unique Mode of Action (MOA) confirmed
    • Last key insecticide released to the market with a unique MOA was in 2008 and achieved US$1.4bn in sales in 2013
    • Underpinned by a strong portfolio of IP
    • Highly experienced Board and management
