Earlier this year Xi was effectively made President for life. He has never been more secure in his power. See:

And as far as I can tell, the Chinese people support him and his efforts against the Trump administration 100%. I say this based on my own experience - my wife is a Chinese citizen and we travel to the mainland several times a year for business and to visit family & friends. We talk about this sort of stuff a lot. I have a reasonably good finger on the pulse
Let me ask you - What’s your basis for saying Xi’s powerbase is ‘eroding by the day?’
That article was written in MARCH of this year. It's old news and I already referred to his grandiose attempt at perpetuity. Even that article gives him only 10 years.
A lot has happened since March 2018, and Xi's enemies which are not obvious but includes former allies, are restive. They're making announcements that are conciliatory rather than brutish towards the US. This means a LOT in the shadowy world of China.
Wake up.
I've got a lot of links on this subject but this is the AZS thread. I doubt you've got a full handle on Sino-US/Australian relations, apart from your own.
Xi has overreached. He's vulnerable to being undermined. As Deng Jnr is doing quite happily.
I have a lot of links on this but this is the AZS forum, not on how far you can take marital relations and connections to be indicative of the future in China.
Let alone the future of zinc markets.
