I’ve had the opportunity to work with Karl in the past. I actually recommended his MQG investment which he thankfully took up. I also recommended NEA at 4c which he didn’t take up
Anyway, Karl’s investment style is methodical, measured and risk adverse without avoiding growth. Using good old fundamental research such as PEGS to find investments then buying into a rising share price or selling into a falling price is a sensible strategy. Nothing wrong with that. The only time he will get caught out is when a black swan event occurs in one of his stocks, such as ARQ, since he generally can only sell 10% of his position down at any one time. But then again, he’s not an orphan to the vagaries of black swans!
He’ll bounce back, hopefully shortly, but only if he starts deploying some cash at these lower levels and doesn’t listen to the doomsayers like Geoff Wilson (!) Not that I have anything against Geoff. He’s a super fellow and a canny investor, just a bit too bearish right now for my liking (usually for alterior motives, I suspect) .
