The rule of three as used by my father was that when he drove down a lonely road, and came up to something that he had to pass, another vehicle would usually approach from the opposite direction to make passing difficult. I learned today that the rule of three in rhetoric advocates communicating effectively by using groups of three. I also learned a new phrase to use at the pub, “omne trium perfectum”. This moved me to write a post using a 3 x 3 approach.
Beneficiated magnetite ore is the most desirable iron ore in the world. It needs sophisticated beneficiation plant, and the intention is that the beneficiated ore would be pumped to Port Headland via a slurry pipeline. RCR is well suited to deliver and maintain the plant, associated conveying and ore handling systems, and the slurry pipeline.
- There are three business entities: i) FMG; ii) RCR and iii) NWH.
- There are three things that FMG wants: i) to make money from high-quality iron ore; ii) from a long-term mine; iii) to be developed by reliable service suppliers.
- There are three facts that are relevant: i) the Iron Bridge Magnetite Project; ii) FMG's history of dealing with RCR and NWH; and iii) RCR's capability in respect to processing plant, ore handling and pipelines.
I am not thinking of this as another near-future adrenaline kick for NWH shareholders – rather from the perspective of long-term positioning. The NWH-cum-RCR combo can use the Iron Bridge Project to position themselves to be the top contenders for future magnetite mines, and in my view in the coming decades this is going to be big business. Omne trium perfectum, the omens are perfectly aligned in a symmetry of 3x3. Only a foolhardy mortal would refuses to see what the gods have made so patent.
