One hopes that modern safety standards place a higher value on lives than those that applied under apartheid decades ago and that modern engineering calculations and measurements get a handle on both the compressive forces in deep mining and the resistance of modern support materials. Agreed that cost of this and other factors needs to be quantified and revealed, at least at a summary level.
