Hasn't anybody thought about the stupidity of this statement?
" PT Gulf has also agreed not to build its own power generator, so long as PT PLN can provide the amount of electricity power required by PT Gulf."

How would GMC build its own generator that would compete with the subsidized power from PLN?   IMPOSSIBLE
Unless GMC plans to build its own dam with hydro electric power.
Lets assume that GMC decides to generate  its own power. A couple of big diesel generators should do the trick for the required  20,000KVA required.
Now a good new diesel generator consumes  0.3litres of diesel to produce 1 KWh. (Thats about the best scenario, many generators use 0.5 litres).
So to produce 20,000KWh you'll need 20,000 x 0.3 litre = 6000 litres. Lets assume that the diesel is purchased for US$0.80/litre.
So the total cost per hour is US$4,800/hr for the 20,000KVA power.  When you calculate this  cost into /KWh you have US$0.24c/KWh.
This is for the diesel fuel only, its doesn't count maintenance costs or capital costs.

Yes, we know that reality is that PLN are installing diesel generators and the cost of running them is US$0.29c/KWh (that is an all up price, the price of diesel fuel alone is US$0.20/KWh at US$70/barrel) .
How  long do you think that the Indonesian Gov't can afford to subsidize the price for GMC's power?

Once GMC has to pay the full price of power, not subsidized power how long will GMC be in business?

I know GMC shareholders think I'm a pain in the neck, but somebody needs to explain the situation to you. You CANNOT power smelter furnaces PROFITABLY using diesel generators.

Back in 2010 diesel generated power cost "3000 IDR/kWh" that is equal to US$0.21/KWh and thats 8 years ago.
    From https://energypedia.info/wiki
"Subsides to the energy sector are one of the biggest items on the national budget. The combined fuel and electricity subsidies accounted for IDR 111.9 trillion in 2010. In the same year the government allocated IDR 57.46 trillion ($6.37 billion) for the fuel subsidy and the rest went to the state utility - PLN - as an operating subsidy in compensation for being compelled to sell electricity at below cost. Average generation cost in Indonesia are around 1200 IDR/kWh and reach up to 3000 IDR/kWh for diesel generated power in remote areas."
