mouse, I understand you point, but its ferro-silicon where OMH will be making the huge profits going forward. I know that Mn ore and manganese alloys are doing OK, but its the ferro-silicon thats gone ballistic.
During the last 1/2, ferro manganese, silico manganese combined production was (March) 19,435 + (June) 29,462 tonnes= 48,897 tonnes
Ferro- silicon was (March) 38,272 + (June)42,292 tonnes. = 80,564
What was most interesting was the CEO statement in the media report
"For the month of June 2017 itself, with the mine running at almost full capacity and the smelter running 12 furnaces, the Group recorded an after tax profit of A$12.2 million. "
Remember that ferro-silicon has 10 furnaces running.
The ferro silicon prices in June were much the same during the whole 1/2 year, so the profit has mostly come from the 12 furnaces operating. (still only at 75% capacity).
Back in March the FeSi Chinese domestic price was 5,700y ($827-871)/t
"Metal Bulletin’s assessment for the Chinese market was at 5,700-6,000 yuan ($827-871) per tonne on Friday March 31, from 5,700-5,900 yuan per tonne the week before. "
In the middle of June the FeSi Chinese domestic price was 5,550y ($815-829)/t
Metal Bulletin’s ferro-silicon price in China’s spot market was at 5,550-5,650 yuan ($815-829) per tonne on Friday, up 50 yuan from a week ago
I should've explain in my previous post that the huge increase in FeSi came after the half year finished.
The price on the 18th August the price for Chinese domestic FeSi was 7,500y ($1,123/t) an increase of US$300/t
"Metal Bulletin’s price quotation for domestic spot ferro-silicon, basis 75% Si in-warehouse China, leapt to 7,500 to 7,650 yuan ($1,123-1,146) per tonne"
The price from Arcus today (30th August) for FeSi Chinese domestic price is 8,700y(US$1320/t) So FeSi is US$500/tonne more than at any time during the last year.
mouse, sorry you are incorrect. Its clear that the huge profits that OMH is now experiencing comes from ferro-silicon.
Not silicon manganese.
Good luck with getting a call back from OMH, I'd say you'll be waiting a while, maybe forever.
