Im Not a geo Lotirish but they explain I think that they check againt "Certified iron standards" before and after each session, what does that mean ??? Im not sure but sounds like a calibration of some sortQuality of assay

Certified iron standards (inserted reference material) are used to measure the accuracy of the analytical tool, in this case the HH-XRF machine. This can tell you if there is any instrumental drift in the results or if the tool needs to be recalibrated. It doesn't account for contamination or precision (which is different to accuracy) of the samples.
