Isn't that a ploy used by big players to try to encourage others to sell lower - a sort of weight of numbers approach - presumably so they can buy more stock at bargain basement prices? The opposite is often seen, where multiple large buyers place orders below the bid line, again, presumably to encourage buying up so they can sell into it. Where there is money to be made there are bound to be tricks aplenty.
