no longer talks about unconventional gas . Coal seam , shale oil now fall under the minerals act
The Petroleum Act 1998 and the Petroleum Regulations 2011 cover onshore petroleum exploration and development activities (excluding transmission pipelines). The Petroleum Act addresses licensing, approvals and other issues including compensation, rehabilitation and royalties. The Act seeks to ensure that petroleum exploration and development have regard for economic, social and environmental interests. Note that coal seam gas comes under the Minerals Resources (Sustainable Development) Act 1990. You can read more about acquiring mineral exploration licences for coal seam gas under the Minerals page.
