Ridiculous to suggest his primary objective is to recover his investment via consultancy fees!!

Much more likely that the firm has mapped out and shared a strategic path with Mr Lord that shows significant potentIal for a healthy ROI. His VC firms investment mandate Is probably much the same as most (potentIal for 10x ROI). So I'd say turning his 500k into 5m would be much closer to expectatIon...
