I mostly agree with Supersizer except, and I cannot find the reference in, I think, Reneweconomy.com.au, that the price spikes during the recent heatwaves were worth multiple hundreds of millions to the generators on the NEM.
GENEX would underbid those spikes every time and so a) save consumers money and b) cost the generators their premiums.
GENEX buying overnight power may also save consumers money by reducing the number of times that wholesale prices go negative just to keep the boilers running - a dollar not spent paying negative prices to pay other generators to close down is a $ more operating profit to the generators.
