Except that a new paradigm (run for the hills!) is emerging.
More and more intermittent generation (solar and wind) is coming on to the grid.
This is inevitable as the cost of new renewable power at $80/MWhr currently and dropping is waaaaay less than new build coal at about $120-$200/MWhr depending on the fruit added and gas pushing even higher.
Arbitraging coal power stations will be profitable (apparently) now but in the not so distant future the money will be in evening out supply from renewables and providing grid support services (frequency/voltage ride through).
Watch South Australia announce a pumped hydro option in the next few weeks, not to arbitrage coal but to even supply from the renewables so that the state is not so reliant on the interconnectors as last week.
