"Gold mining typically is pretty hard on equipment and crush/grind yes? Where as lead Galena is a breeze. That right there creates a expense differential underground. "
given the lead is hosted in dolomite It is not the lead that will cause the greatest wear on equipment but the dolomite which will cause the greatest wear on equipment , mind you in this case the Bond working index for dolomite is only around 12kwH a tonne so yes it is quite low compared with quartz or gabbro hosted gold .
However that is all factored in the mining cost per tonne , which is used to work out cut off grade . As I stated I use Au eq for my own satisfaction , yes it is a crude way of making a comparison, if it is of no use to you then just do not use it .
"From there you could talk about losses in process and recovery factors with that % in ore already creating a significant cost difference between the two recoveries. "
I fail to see how % by itself is relevant , an ounce a tonne of gold is not anywhere near even 1% yet high recoveries are possible if non refractory.
