Interesting discussion and just thought I would add my 2 cents worth. Sadly I am currently a wage slave, but I agree it is better than being unemployed and disengaged. Australia is in a fortunate position and I thank my lucky stars that I was born here and not in the dire circumstances of 90% of the world's population live in. Having said this, a number worrying trends are emerging in western economies. Probably the most severe is the increasing inequality. The United States is the leader on this front, though this is a worldwide phenomenon. The hard won egalitarianism of the mid to latter 20th century is gradually being eroded!

PS. We need more grumpy SOB's! My workplace does not encourage diversity of opinion and over the last few years many grumpy old SOB's have been forced out. I found these individuals to be the most thoughtful and insightful.
