No it wasn't a targeted profession that year...the error also wasn't cap gains related.

Personally, I suspect they audited me after I chased down and got back my emergency fund after ASIC confiscated it as unclaimed money, due to no transactions on that account for x years.

Strangely though, when I asked the ATO if I made the same error in the previous or next year (same conditions applied), they hadn't checked...i made them check as the interest the ATO charges is insane.

The info the accountant had wasn't trades through a smsf...not sure if that makes a difference...

The accountant didn't have all my divi info though, just longer held stocks and that sales had occurred

I think you're right, that they don't have it all yet, but are working towards it, especially given this governments joy at raking back money from your average Joe or Josephine.
