The above poster mentioned the 45 day period to receive the franking credits. You are talking about dividends, they are talking about the tax credits that are associated with the dividend.
I have rarely seen a stock go ex-dividend and not drop by as much, or more, than the dividend amount. I would say it would be pure amateurs who would attempt this as a trading strategy. For example; you could have done twice as well in-terms of arbitrage by buying and selling at yesterday's open and close.
