The issue in South Africa is not whether there are power lines near your project, the issue is can you draw sufficient power from the nearest power line? There are several projects in South Africa that are being held back from going into production, because Eskom can not guarantee reliable power. Also several mines have had to stop production over periods of time over the last few years because of brown outs. The issue is not if there are high voltage powerlines nearby, but do those lines contain sufficient power for the project? Because TNO are planning on doing a DSO operation, maybe their power requirements are not going to be that great and confirming reliable power for their project will not be an issue. However, at some stage TNO will need to address this issue and advise the market.
