The public's concerns about hydraulic fracturing may be real but in the case of deep shale and tight gas wells the concerns are unfounded .

Hydraulic fracturing where the geology is appropriate and performed by a competent operate is safe .

It would be very hard for Carbon Energy to explain the differences between in-situ coal gasification and hydraulic fracturing without being construed as casting aspersions on hydraulic fracturing which would only fan green flames .

In-situ coal gasification is potentially more problematic than shale gas and tight gas due to subsidence and taking place much shallower. Selection of a site with the correct geology is even more important .

What I am trying to say is that if Carbon Energy try to explain the technical details and differences to lay people they will encounter the same problem as the shale gas guys have . It is a losing battle because many won't be able to get their head around it .

IMHO , Carbon Energy should pitch it in terms of amount of wilderness which has to be industrialised :- does society a) want to have 1 multi-well and pad and pipelines every 4-6km2 over an area of 3,000km2 of pristine wilderness or b) would it prefer to sacrifice 30km2 to in-situ coal gasification ?
