You are correct in the first instance about compromising the study.
The DSMB / Medsafe monitor the Trial Patients through out the trial, they are not privy to the Placebo Patients identity.
Not only do they monitor for negative effects and side effects ,,the trial as it progresses has to show " Significant Positive Benefit to the Trial Patients" so to answer many questions at once, To Date there has been no negative side effects and we know Medsafe will only be satisfied with Significant Positive Benefits , ergo that must have been achieved to date.
ACW had interim Data as many Trial Patients had completed the entire trial including a monitoring period , we know that stimulated a $15m investment at a premium to the SP. (for me it took considerable risk off the table)
