The Gates Foundation's focus is malaria prevention. So they interested in vaccinations and providing insecticide coated mosquito nets for instance. I guess the legacy they want to leave is curing the world of a problem than alleviating it. They have taken a different view on TB, where they are focused on treatment. Perhaps with malaria they can see this treatment as a valuable and key first step to their ultimate goal.
