I have worked as a geologist in the Paterson Basin since 1980 and driven on all the road out there as recently as July 2016. The last time the Telfer Road was impassable, it was for 3 or 4 months. Fuel was pumped across a causeway about 10 km wide to tankers on the other side. Newcrest were fortunate in the they could fly the gold out in a suite case.
I have had decades of dealing with the Martu who are decent people, but they are sometimes (mis)led by activists who I'm sure will attempt to portray any agreements as unconscionable.
This project deserves success, but I would spread my bets.
