Yep, I know exactly what it takes to build in SE Asia, I'm just about to head back to Thailand again. Currently building a 500sq m holiday home in the mountains. The locals have never seen anything like it before, lightweight gal steel trusses, 1000m of electrical wire in commercial ducting, rebar in walls horizontally and vertically. Footings 450 x 350mm with double the normal concrete mix ratio. The roof even has 150 mm ceiling insulation, doubt you can even buy in Australia.
Yes , Asians do often use bamboo for rebar, so its no joke. Thats why I'm always there on site overseeing construction, considering I've built a marina and commercial workshops in Australia I guess I know a couple of things.
