Just my take on what's happened recently...
Not sure if you recall the movie Crocodile Dundee much, but the big joke in the story is that Dundee is actually full of sh1t. His manager sniffs a big paycheck and sets up Mick as this towering "country man" for the media. Mick is, in reality, just a local who pulls off all these stunts to impress the reporter who is, of course, completely fooled. The double joke is that what's considered total bull in the countryside IS actually rough and tough enough to qualify for the real thing. In the process of conning the press at large, Mick performs a series of acts he thinks nothing of to reveal Mick really IS the real deal compared to clueless city slickers.
Same for Lithium mining. After Elon Musk's electric (haha!) performance on stage during which pre-orders for his lithium powered cruiseships piled in live on TV, a million and one hands (mine being one) turned to Google to source who in the hell has this Lithium. This is where the old mining hands leaned off the bar slowly sensing their moment. They were the worn-out, craggy old WA prospectors and overnight they went from 30 year old failed gold companies to suddenly become long term, hot-sh1t Lithium professionals with wonkily pasted LIHTUIM (spel.) signs overlaying the word GOLD on their prospectuses.
Meanwhile investors and I were like LA bitches at a condo auction furiously buying and selling every company that hinted at the word Lithium in their announcements. Or more like the Keystone Cops to be fair. We'd pile into one, discover it to be BS, pile out and race to the next one. Over and over.
The reason we chased this cotton candy fairy floss is because it was the only game in town. But also because we knew that in WA these long-yarn, slow talking outback types also do know which rock is which in the outback and can tell you which bloke dug what soil and what his preferred drink was in the pub. So teeth gritted, we followed them round and round the outback in circles knowing they'd finally relent and turn up a good investment.
