"VIRGIN Blue chief executive Brett Godfrey has announced he will retire next year.
Mr Godfrey made his announcement today amid news of a capital raising by the carrier, which entered a trading halt over its fund raiser.

"As part of a capital raising commenced this morning, and after probably six to eight months of deliberations, I have taken the opportunity to notice the market of my intent to retire from Virgin Blue next year,” Mr Godfrey said.

"After more than 10 years, it will certainly be time for someone else to come and have a go.

"I have agreed to remain until the end of 2010 and head the search for a successor. Little will change over the next 12 months, other than we will commence the succession plan at the appropriate time.

"Given the time to transition, there is little more to add for the moment.”
