I happen to think that Hydrogen is coming on a number of fronts.
I think the CSIRO and Alan Finkel know that Hydrogen is coming especially in fuel cells.

What Australia needs to accept is that there are new ways that Hydrogen will be produced going forward, the US is very much headed in that direction, it is being driven by the US military, they want Small Modular Reactors that are capable of being delivered on site, by truck ship or any other means and capable of producing electricity within three days, but it goes much further than that, it will also provide a means of Hydrogen production as well as a means of desalination!
These new reactors will eat today's nuclear fuel, which will mean that 80% of today's UNF waste will be used to provide fuel for the next generation reactor which also means that only 20% of today's waste remains, but not only that, what is left is only radioactive for around 3oo to 400 years compared to today's burial of UNF and als mean that what is buried is far less dangerous compared to a radioactive waste that is far more dangerous for over 1 million years!
