The reality is that the world was never going to sit still and wait for Tanzania.
Everybody signed up for the new legislation straight away. Some because they agreed, some because there was little point in arguing. But the reality is that coming up to 18 months later, we are still waiting for the final details to be negotiated....so we can go mining in Tanzania ..and not just KNL or just Graphite miners, all mine developers are still awaiting the final detail of the legislation to be ironed out.
It would be foolhardy to think that the world, eager for graphite (or any other mineral) was going to sit there and wait for Tanzania. That's not how things work. Some have gone prospecting elsewhere, customers for graphite have worked with other miners to expand existing mine output in other more 'mining friendly' countries, others have shifted focus (Batteries) and still others have looked at workarounds like KNL (not sure that was the plan initially with EcoGraf...but it is certainly a happy end result that the processes are seemingly feed independent).
In the end it is up to the Tanzanian Government if they want to derive significant benefit out of their mineral wealth or not...but one thing is for sure...if they don't move soon it will be them that misses out as progress and the battery powered future isn't going to wait for Tanzania.
