My reading of the northernmost hit is that it is an extension to surface of the deeper resource that is not currently part of mining reserves (ie the non-laterite resource).
This is potentially important because if the deeper resource actually extends to surface, rather than Stage 2 being UG mining, they could start the stage with a much cheaper (production cost) open pit.
Below is a diagram from a recent EAR presentation, I've included the orientation (approximate) showing the Northerly direction as well as a black circle to highlight approximately where the northern intersection in today's announcement was situated and where a open pit could potentially be if further results show more gold intersections and mineralisation joining with the deeper resource.
