Whitehaven Coal chief Paul Flynn has signalled the miner could pay another special dividend in a year's time given its strong cashflows, negligible capital spending and the looming proceeds from the sale of a stake in its next mining project.
His optimism on future shareholder returns came after Whitehaven posted a record $525.5 million profit and doubled its dividend, rewarding the Australian institutional investors that have flocked back to the company's share register in recent years despite pressure to divest from fossil fuels.
