The short duration of v d Mye’s directorship was rather surprising. At first I was looking for intrigues but I remembered seeing him at the AGM. New people always stand out at small meetings. The image he presented was one of total disinterest in the meeting. I wondered at the time, “Why did he bother coming?” New share holders normally are very keen to learn. Ill health would explain his soporific demeanour.

As it happened I was sitting next to Alison Coutts but as the meeting concluded the existing directors all surged forward somewhat sycophantically to congratulate her on election to the board, so that I could not engage her. She had been to several previous meetings and participated in the discussion quite vigorously and with excellent sense. It was quite refreshing. Again, new people normally listen or ask questions but she already knew her stuff and contributed. In retrospect, she may have been groomed to take a director’s position and perhaps the Chairman’s as well.

Prime Bio might well be our preoccupations but we have heard very little of what are supposed to be our developing bread and butter lines, gels, diagnostics, etc. Is anyone responsible to progress these divisions or are these to be regarded as run out products while all effort is focussed on plasma separations?
