Anyone remember my post about "emergence" ?
Emergent behavior is behavior of a system that does not depend on its individual parts, but on their relationships to one another. Thus emergent behavior cannot be predicted by examination of a system's individual parts. It can only be predicted, managed, or controlled by understanding the parts and their relationships. Emergent behavior is also known as emergence, emergent property, or “the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.”
This is a very clear demonstration of emergent behavior. It is a natural way that most R&D occurs, that is you have a concept, that you design, build and test, to find out it didn't perform as it intended (i.e. did not meet its mission objective). Systems engineering principles 101. You go back to the drawing board (literally) to identify the root cause of the issue and see what can be done to either salvage the situation or require re-design.
Personally I believe the salvage operation has failed, and they are now back to the drawing board. But of course the fan club will jump on me for that. "What facts are you basing your comments on?" and "I don't see anything in the last announcement that tells me that and you're reading between the lines instead of taking the announcement literally".
