Of course, that's all contingent on whether they
(a) hit the conductor. The plate model is just that, a model. One thing we know about real world conductors is that they are almost never simple geometry. It's possible they may glance off the side of what ever it is. In which case, the borehole EM should give a more precise vector to the heart of the system.
(B) the conductor is sulphide and not graphite, barren sulphide, etc
