I thing that the big offers/sells are there to make the sell side look weak, and they are far enough away to be safe. Nervy holders then go below them to either test the big bid or get close enough to be bought off-line.
Anyway, the beast has slightly stirred from its slumber, so that might mean something positive is on the way. I'd rather have this than what we experienced for some time before yesterday.
